CHICAGO (CBS) – At an event on Saturday, PAWS Chicago offered free rabies and distemper vaccines to hundreds of pets, while COVID-19 vaccines were available to people.

Back of the Yards pet owners lined up for the free vaccination clinic in the parking lot of William H. Seward Communication Arts Academy Elementary School, 4600 S. Hermitage Ave. This was part of the PAWS for Life Back of the Yards community day.

PAWS said spreading their services to Chicago communities is critical.

“There is such a demand for veterinary services at Back of the Yards, in Englewood, West Englewood – the communities we serve,” said Laurie Maxwell of PAWS Chicago. “There is so much love for animals here, and unfortunately there are no veterinary resources.”
