City of Chicago Announces Qualification Applications for Chicago Riverwalk Community Market for 2022 Season
CHICAGO – The City of Chicago’s Department of Assets, Information, and Services (AIS) today announced it is inviting businesses in the food and beverage, retail, arts and d ‘other companies with the qualifications and expertise to apply to operate a franchise on the Chicago Riverwalk Community Marketplace for the 2022 Season, beginning of May. This procurement is specifically intended to provide opportunities for businesses offering concession services reflecting the culturally diverse and neighborhoods of the city of Chicago on the Chicago Riverwalk.
“The community market remains a major contributor to the success of our beloved Chicago Riverwalk,” said Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot. “By opening this opportunity to our small businesses, we can ensure their long-term success and emerge from the pandemic with an even more dynamic economy. ”
The city currently intends to establish a pool of qualified operators offering a variety of dealerships showcasing the best of the city on the Chicago Riverwalk. The Riverwalk Community Marketplace is located on the south bank of the Chicago River between Michigan Avenue and Wabash.
“The Chicago Riverwalk has transformed downtown Chicago’s waterfront into an active, pedestrian-friendly environment and a cultural destination for residents and tourists,” said ISA Commissioner David Reynolds. “It’s very exciting to see the Community Marketplace emerge as a popular destination in the heart of the Chicago Riverwalk, contributing to the unique Chicago experience with lively bars and restaurants, cultural events. and public art. The construction of the community market was completed in 2019 to provide opportunities for small businesses owned by minorities and women and each season its popularity has grown in popularity.
Minority and women-owned businesses are strongly encouraged to respond, as vendors that opened seven days a week in the 2021 season generated more than $ 100,000 in total revenue.
“We absolutely recommend other small businesses to apply to join the Riverwalk. It was the best springboard imaginable for our little store, ”said Colores Mexicanos. “The space is small enough to be manageable as a first showcase, the rent is affordable and the exposure is incredible.
