Warren County plans to hire a Chicago-based company to research best practices from other tourist destinations to see what that area could do to become more competitive.
The Tourism and Occupation Tax Coordination recommended hiring Hunden Strategic Partners at a cost of $ 72,000.
Company founder Rob Hunden told the committee at its September 30 meeting that Warren County’s RFP was a little different from normal marketing studies.
âYou’re really trying to figure out what the special sauce is, what we can do to smooth out our seasonality and really dig in and see what our competition is doing,â he said.
Hunden said his company collects and analyzes data such as the number of visitors, where they come from and their demographics.
He also talks to tourism officials in other communities.
âThey like to share what they have done well. They usually admit what they screwed up, âhe said.
Hunden plans to develop information on the top five competing destinations in this region and their position relative to Warren County. It will also look at how much these communities have spent on marketing.
Among the key questions posed by the study are which seasonal competitive vacation destinations have experienced the strongest growth in the five years. Also, what are the 10 fastest growing summer destinations in terms of visitor spending and number of overnight stays and increased occupancy tax revenue, according to a slideshow.
