Valparaiso University’s Kinder lernen Deutsch program has resumed from second to fourth year after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is a German-language program for children in grades two through four, and classes are held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Mondays at the Kade-Duesenberg German House and Valparaiso University Cultural Center. Classes are $75 per person, and beginners and children with no prior experience are welcome. Starting this month, Indiana Dunes Tourism will launch the Coffee & Sweets Trail, which is a culinary trail that features local coffee shops and sweets near Indiana Dunes State National Park. Participating companies include Fluid Coffee Roasters and Dagger Mountain. Each participating store created a special Indiana Dunes-themed drink. Participation is available to train by registering at go.indianadunes.com/coffee.
Billy Gillman will be the first to perform for PortageLIVE! Live music concerts fall 2022 through spring 2023. Gillman will perform at 7 p.m. September 22 at Portage High School East Auditorium. Admission for students is free and general adult admission is $15 at the door. PortageLIVE! Now in its 33rd season of live entertainment for the community, and concerts will continue on November 18 with a performance by Elton Jeff & The Honky Cats.
The Porter County Tobacco Prevention and Education Coalition will co-host a youth wellness forum from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. September 27 at Harre Union at Valparaiso University. The forum, organized in alliance with the Valparaiso University College of Nursing and Health Professions, will be co-organized in partnership with Tobacco Free Lake County Indiana and A Positive Approach to Teen Health. Keynote speaker Victor DeNoble will present “Inside the Dark Side: The Biology of Addiction” virtually.
