There will be multiple workshops, trainings, guest speakers, food, events, and so forth. This will be the biggest Drupal event in Chicago ever.

Drupal Camp Chicago 2008. Code name "DCC". All day event looking to draw 50 - 100+ people. We have been talking about this for a long time and now we are setting a date. Could DCC be the start of a Drupalcon Chicago in the next few years....? Any ideas on a location? Please join the "Camp planning" meetings at onShore to participate.

Not to throw a wrench in the works, but arbitrarily deciding a date/time before even discussing it with anyone in the community is imho the absolute wrong way to start organizing an event like this. Maybe it's just me, but I was under the impression that DrupalCamp Chicago would be a corollary to, and run along-side or within the same week as, Penguin Day Chicago which is being organized by the Chicago Technology Cooperative. I feel that if we put these two events together, it would make for a much more productive and eventful day (or two). Not only that, but CTC actually has quite a bit of collective experience organizing and running events in the open-source / non-profit / tech-geek sector.
Please don't get me wrong, I would much like to see CDMUG play a huge role in DCC, but I feel that it needs more discussion within the community before anything is decided. Maybe we could talk with our friends up in Milwaukee and see how they started to plan and organize DrupalCampWI. I think it would also be to our advantage to work with the CTC in organizing what (I can only hope) will be a large-ish and successful (whatever that means) event. :)

We have a forum setup for DCC discussion. Also every Monday from 8PM - 12 Midnight we have a IRC channel setup on freenode.net #cdmug please join discussions there as well.
CDMUG has been reaching out for months to members through email, IM's, CDMUG.org, IRC, phone calls, etc... But the only communiation we got was that they were interrested - setting a date gets the water flowing. I've talked with our friends in Milwaukee and the twin cities, they plan to help as much as they can. See you on the forum.
