The Chicago Drupal Meetup Group (CDMUG) is developing a local resource to help grow Chicago's Drupal.org Community. Please visit our meetup.com page and RSVP for our next event - Also join the Chicago Drupal Users Group. The group currently has 100+ members between our 3 web sites, but only draws 7 – 15 members, on average, each monthly meet up. The environment is very open – we discuss ideas, debug problems, and brainstorm current personal or client Drupal projects. (ie: what module would work best to solve this need? etc.) Meet Ups take place monthly at onShore Networks. A projector will be available, free wifi, and laptops are encouraged. All skill levels are welcomed and we order pizza. Come show off your Drupal projects. Need help with a problem? Someone can find you a solution at the meet up. Lots of free public parking, just North-West of the Chicago Loop.

Last night's meetup was great, Thanks again to Matthew and Kyle for organizing and I.C. Stars for hosting!

I like the energy having quite a few new people (and some we haven't seen for a bit) at the meetup last night. We had some great discussion about what we could do for meetup content.... Not to put any more work on our organizers, but I think we can come up with a standard Agenda that can accommodate all the ideas I heard last night. Here is my attempt:

  • Introductions and Agenda additions

Move Over, AJAX, ARAX Is Here

matthew's picture

Microsoft is promoting an alternative to AJAX known as Asynchronous Ruby and XML (ARAX). At the RailsConf conference for Ruby on Rails developers, Job Lam, creator of the IronRuby project at Microsoft, said that as Microsoft's Silverlight rich Internet application environment is adopted, it will provide Ruby developers with a way to deliver AJAX-style applications without having to use JavaScript. Lam says using ARAX will allow Ruby developers to not have to use tools such as the Ruby JavaScript (RJS) utility for generating JavaScript code for the client.

g.d.o High Performance Group

This group is dedicated to solutions and approaches for high traffic, high performing Drupal sites. As such, it will deal with a lot of information around the rest of a typical Drupal "stack" -- the operating system, web server, database, and PHP tweaks that combine to support the Drupal application.

I found this group while researching for tips about Drupal and Cloud Computing.

Clean URL .htaccess configuration

Tagged:  •    •

Successfully, I spent the last day trying to enable Clean URL's on a Drupal 5.7 remote server (media temple (dedicated virtual). I want to thank all CDMUG members who pulled together with me to investigate this by phone, email, and IM. Im walking away from this with a new appreciation for linux guru's and the ssh command line. With that said - Im going to provide a 5 step hack to enable Clean URL's. I'd only try this hack as a last resort; I put a few links below that have more tips on the subject.

Step 1. Download this x.htaccess file
