Police warn of armed thieves touting semi-automatic weapon that struck Lakeview 6 times – CBS Chicago


CHICAGO (CBS) – Police issued a community alert on Thursday about six recent armed robberies on residential streets in Lakeview.

In each incident, thieves approached unsuspecting victims on the sidewalk and demanded money while brandishing semi-automatic firearms, police said.

After the victims each time gave up their possessions, the thieves got into a waiting vehicle driven by a fleeing driver and set off.

The incidents occurred at the following times and locations:

• At 9:20 pm on Wednesday, November 17, in the 800 block of West Wolfram Street;
• At 10:05 pm on an unspecified date in November in the 3900 block of North Janssen Avenue;
• At 1 am on Sunday, November 28, in the 1800 block of West Wellington Avenue;
• At 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1, in block 1000 of West Barry Avenue;
• At 8:53 pm on Wednesday, December 1, in the 1600 block of West Cornelia Avenue;
• At 8:55 pm on Wednesday, December 1, in the 1400 block of West Cornelia Avenue.

The suspects are two to five men, aged 13 to 25, wearing dark hoodies and ski masks.
